Even though the program for Reykjavík Pride includes around 30 events, in addition to off-venue events, to the majority of Icelanders, Pride is all about the parade. It‘s estimated that around 100,000 people watch the parade every year.

The Reykjavík Pride took place for the 16th time last week with a record-breaking 100,000 spectators and participants attending the big Parade on Saturday. That is roughly one-third of the whole population. As usual the were lots of glimmer, gloss and colorful costumes to be seen. But also a strong underlying message reminding us that the battle for equal rights is far from over. Maybe best exemplified by signs carried by participants showing LGBT slur that has been written on message boards in social media. Below is a glimpse of the parade.
