The Netherlands (83%) narrowly beat Iceland (82%) and Canada (80%) as the best place in the world to be gay and lesbian according to a Gallup poll in 123 countries. On average nearly 3 in 10 say their areas are good for gay and lesbians which shows there is still a lot of work to be done in raising awareness and fight for equality, especially in Africa. There is also those countries where it is considered too sensitive to ask the question “Is the city or area where you live a good place or not a good place to live for gay or lesbian people. The countries in question are: Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Iran, Nigeria, Bahrain, Bhutan, Iraq, Kuwait, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Yemen.
