Viggó and Víóletta off to New York

“This is one of the worlds biggest Gay Pride festivals and it’s truly an honor to be invited there,” says actor Bjarni Snæbjörnsson, who alongside actress Sigríður Eyrún Friðríksdóttir, has been asked to perform at the New York Gay Pride in June next year.

Bjarni and Sigríður are behind singing musical duo Viggó and Víóletta who perform this years Reykjavík Gay Pride Song, Rönd í Regnboga (e. Stripe in a Rainbow) which is a cover song of Don’t Rain on My Parade made famous by American actress and singer Barbra Streisand. The music video has been quite popular on YouTube, Facebook as well as here at GayIeland.is and Bjarni explains that thanks to it they got the invitation in the first place.

About the song the actor has this to say: “It celebrates diversity and the fact that because there are all kinds of people, Iceland and in fact the whole world are far much richer for it. Also that each and everyone should be proud of whom he or she is.”

The New York Pride is one of the oldest prides in the world. The first gay parade took place there on the 28th of June in 1970 following the Stone Wall riot in Greenwich Village the year before. The same day Gay Pride Parades were held in cities Chicago and Los Angeles.
