With only 7 days to go and for the fourteenth time the preparation for Reykjavik Gay Pride 2012 (i. Hinsegin dagar) is in full swing. We at GayIceland.is are also preparing for the Pride and we‘ve published a listing of all the events along with location maps. The Pride parade is the highlight of the Pride events where over eighty thousand Icelanders and guests from all over the world gather by BSI bus terminal Saturday, Aug. 11th at 2 p.m. to watch the parade along its route down to Arnarhóll in Rvik city center.
It‘s not many years ago a handful of people walked down Laugavegur with ski masks, so they couldn‘t be recognized, asking for equal legal rights for LGBT people. With the newly passed Transgender bill LGBT people of Iceland enjoy the same legal rights as the rest of Icelanders and the transgender community is expected to be more visible during the Pride this year. Therefore the Pride parade is very much a joyful family event, where people of all walks of life and all ages meet to celebrate equality. Equal rights for all citizens is the only way forward for a healthy and united society.
