St. Petersburg, the capital city of Russia, prides itself on its cosmopolitan reputation. Yet in one week the city will vote on a homophobic law that will silence millions by making it a crime to read, write or even discuss anything gay. If this law will be passed in St. Petersburg, the ruling party’s next step is to push this law nationwide, All Out reports.
At the same time, Russian leaders recently announced that they want to invest 11 billion dollars to build their international reputation and attract tourists from around the world. International organisation All Out has come up with a plan that will ensure that the Governor of St. Petersburg, who has veto power, realises that tourists don’t want to visit and spend money in a city with laws that will muzzle its inhabitants, artists, writers, musicians and regular citizens.
The plan involves All Out members around the world organizing flash mobs in front of Russian embassies and consulates where they will deliver signatures from online members protesting, straight to the government’s doorstep. All you have to do is take a minute, go to the All Out website and send a message to Governor Poltavchenko.
