A traveller shares his experience of visiting the Rainbow Reykjavik festival in Iceland.
Arriving in Iceland on Thursday and whisked away directly to the magical Blue Lagoon was the perfect start to an amazing weekend. After the relaxing soak a welcoming party at gay club Truno where we met the friendly locals, tasted Icelandic beer and schnapps and enjoyed some Icelandic music with Elín Ey.
Friday was a day in the city, free time during the morning for a city stroll then we met up for great lunch and headed for a very informative Queer history walk with the handsome Hilmar Magnusson.
After that a warm welcome with wine in city hall which showed us that Reykjavik city really knows how to treat their visitors with style. We got some free time to shop before entering the world of Reykjavik‘s music and concert hall, the magnificent Harpa, that house takes architecture to another level. Enjoyed a fantastic dinner at Kolabrautin where the view was just amazing. Viggo and Violetta came to get us to go to a concert in a beautiful Northern lights hall in Harpa. Icelandic singer Lay Low was just mesmerizing and Viggo and Violetta so great and entertaining.
We tried to hunt for Northern lights, no luck but a good excuse to come next year.
Saturday was the Golden Circle and Laugarvatn Fontana tour with Icelandic lunch pack and two grandma guides. One word – Breathtaking. Icelandic nature really is spectacular and we felt like we got to experience something really real and unique. That night was the viking party, people really went all out and some even tasted the shark. Later we ventured to the crazy Icelandic nightlife, what a fun night.
This trip is one I will keep with me forever.
Thank you so much, Rainbow Reykjavik and Pink Iceland.
