Enjoy watching fit swimmers flex their muscles, going to a beach party, sailing on-board a ship full of fun people or just partying non stop? Well, then there are plenty of exciting events to choose from at the forthcoming Reykjavik Pride (August 5th-10th) as this years programme clearly exemplifies.
Like before the Opening Ceremony and Dance are among the most anticipated events, with local artist Paul Oscar and RuPaul’s Drag Race contender Wilam (season 4) taking the stage. But Pride is not all about partying as we all know and the organizers have made sure that there’s something fun to do for everyone.
The Reykjavík Queer Choir will perform at Fríkirkjan, an old church near Tjörnin (a lake in the city center). The Association of Queer Parents will host a Family Festival in Viðey Island, just outside Reykjavík. Lectures and
open discussions on “Intersex”, “Queer Activism” and “Nudity, Sex and other Taboos” will take place. And last but not least over one hundred thousand supporters of LGBT rights are expected to show up for the ever popular Pride Parade. And these are just few of many events that don’t fit exactly into the party category.
With so many things on offer we highly recommend that you keep in mind the good old Icelandic saying: “Strive best with foresight” (i. “Kapp er best með forsjá”). After all Reykjavík Pride is a 6 day festival and you don’t want to collapse midway through.
The Pride Center will be open daily from 12PM to 8PM, at The National Queer Organizations new headquarters at Suðurgata 3, from August 4th to August 8th.
