“Je soutient le droit au mariage et á l’adoption pour les homosexuels. Pour l’égalite, maintenant!”
Proposals to introduce same-sex marriage in France have provoked a strong backlash in recent weeks. Jón Gnarr, the mayor of Reykjavík, has for the past days been very clear on the subject. He fully supports the legalisation of gay marriage and adoption by gay couples in France.
In a video on Youtube the mayor can been seen flopping cards with a clear message: “Je soutient le droit au mariage et á l’adoption pour les homosexuels. Pour l’égalite, maintenant!” In other words: “I’m in favour of the legalisation of gays to marry and adopt children.”
The video has already gotten a very strong response on Gnarr’s Facebook page with comments like “Bravo!”, “Merci beaucoup” and “We need people like you in the country right now”.
Ecstatic Esperanza Leal says: “So why don’t you come to France Jon? 🙂 Come and explain your point of view about the politics and the world! I am sure my teachers at the university of Paris would be proud to have you there!” . One Jason Winstanley on the other hand plainly states: “You are fucking ace, Jon. We need to spread Gnarrism.”
“French society is tearing itself apart over the issue with an intensity that was not anticipated by the government, and (president Francoise) Hollande has been accused of not taking a strong enough stand to force full equality on to the French statute book,” says in the Guardian. Hollande’s Marriage for All’ bill is none the less expected to become law in the next few months.
