The immensly popular singer and songwriter Ed Sheeran could possibly perform a concert at Kórinn concert venue in Iceland next year, according to GayIceland’s sources.
The sources claim that Icelandic entertainment and event company Sena is in talks with Ed Sheeran’s management team, Rocket Music Management, and is trying to get an Iceland concert included in Ed’s next tour, reportedly taking place next year. Nothing has been confirmed about the alleged tour but various new outlets have reported that the musician will headline Glastonbury festival next summer.
Ísleifur Þórhallsson, concert promoter at Sena, has been in charge of organizing some of the biggest concerts in Iceland, including the concerts of Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber. When asked whether Sena is in talks with Ed Sheeran’s management team, Ísleifur does not confirm or deny claims.
“No comment,” he says.
Ed is certainly no stranger to Iceland after having celebrated his 25th birthday on the South coast last February. During his stay he took time to greet fans, visited the Blue Lagoon and had a hearty steak sandwich at a local restaurant near Eyjafjallajökull volcano.
Ed has been on hiatus from recording music since December 2015 when he wrapped up his 178-date x tour. The tour included Asia, Europe, North America, Australia and South America between August 2014 and September 2015, grossing an estimated 80 million USD in ticket sales, including three sold-out shows at London’s Wembley Stadium.
He has enjoyed massive success after his debut album + was released in September of 2011. Since its release it has been certified six-times platinum in the UK, and one of its singles, The A Team, earned him the Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically. After that Ed won the Brit Awards for Best British Male Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act.
Ed’s second studio album, x, was released in June of 2014 and peaked at number one in the UK and the US. X won the Brit Award for Album of the Year and Ed received the Ivor Novello Award for Songwriter of the Year. His single from x, Thinking Out Loud, earned him two Grammy Awards this year: Song of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance.
If Ed will perform at Kórinn he will follow in the footsteps of pop sensations Justin Timberlake and Justin Bieber, the former performing for some 16.000 people in 2014 and the latter selling out two shows this past September.
