A new transgender documentary titled Hrafnhildur will premiere on August 7th or the first day of Reykjavik Pride visir.is reports. The film chronicles the turbulent four-year journey of a trans womans gender makeover, including psychotherapy and hormonal treatment and its aftermath.
The director Ragnhildur Steinunn Jonsdottir says that making the documentary was quite the roller coaster ride. “It was touch but also really educational. The woman felt she had to choose between death or life as a fully recognised woman and fortunately chose the latter.”
Ragnhildur says the her past experience as a sports coach of a young boy who later underwent gender reassignment surgery inspired her to make the documentary. “This was my way to try to understand the mindset of transgender people. The trans community’s battle for equality has just begun and the public is starting to understand that this is a solvable problem.”
