Beauty in all forms

Concept artist Kitty Von-Sometime releases a new episode of The Weird Girls Project with music by CREEP featuring Sia.

“The purpose of this piece is to promote a message to women to embrace yourself, women celebrating themselves as themselves and to truly love who they are,” says British-born, Iceland-residing concept artist Kitty Von-Sometime who today released her latest episode of the performance art series The Weird Girls Project, called “#EmbraceYourself” with music by Brooklyn-based duo CREEP and featuring Sia.

In addition to the latest episode of The Weird Girls Project, Kitty is the subject of a new feature length documentary film I Want To Be Weird, directed by Brynja Dögg Friðriksdóttir and produced by Spier Films. Photo by Jeaneen Lund.

The piece features women encrusted in thickly layered gold body glitter dancing amidst wet volcanic sand with a backdrop of angled mirrors. “I chose to coat these women in gold to symbolize their radiance and self-worth,” Kitty explains, “letting the mirrors reflect an ability to truly embrace their bodies from every perspective.”

For this episode Kitty collaborated with  CREEP, who provided the soundtrack which also features Sia. “It made complete sense as both (Lauren) Flax and (Lauren) Dillard are passionate about representing real women and reducing the body negative aspects of the media,” she says of the collaboration.

“#EmbraceYourself” is the 16th episode in The Weird Girls Project art series. Each episode combines Kitty’s bold, imaginative concepts with her passion to reshape the perception of women in global society and therefore help women free themselves of self-imposed boundaries.

“I was just so fed up with women being bothered about the way they look and their lack of confidence,” Kitty says about what sparked the first Weird Girls project, which started out as an experiment and grew very quickly into a successful performance art series  with an ever-growing waiting list of participants, an avid global fanbase and critical acclaim from international arts and culture media.
