The Ebola virus is a plague unleashed by God to punish homosexuality and other immoral acts. This is the unanimous conclusion of a recent meeting attended by church leaders from the Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) in Liberia, West Africa. The purpose was to discuss “a spiritual response” to the outbreak of Ebola, which has infected almost 10.000 people in West Africa since March. Liberia is the worst hit country where poverty and civil war have left a weak health system unable to cope with the exponential spread of the disease.
The resolution of the LCC meeting was summarised and released in a public statement: “Liberians have to pray and seek God’s forgiveness over the corruption and immoral acts (such as homosexualism, etc.) that continue to penetrate our society (…) As Christians, we must repent and seek God’s forgiveness.”
Violence towards the LGBT community in Liberia has escalated since the statement was released. Amnesty has received pictures of cars reportedly belonging to gays with their windows smashed. As well as reports that gays have been forced from their homes and into hiding.
