Eleven Icelandic MPs want to push into effect a new bill that further ensures the legal rights of transgender people in Iceland.
According to Eygló Þóra Harðardóttir, MP of The Progressive Party (i. Framsóknarflokkur), the aim is to prevent that people can be denied of products or services based on their gender identity. Eygló also wants that criminal charges can ba made against those who publicly mock, shame, threaten etc. people based on their gender identity.
If the bill gets the green light transgender people will gain the same legal protection against discrimination in Iceland as others based on, say, their sexuality, race, religion or ethnic background.
