Ok to be different in Iceland

“I’m really happy with the reception, considering how they could have been. This could have been a death sentance in some other countries. In that sense there is a huge difference between Iceland and other countries,” says Hrafnhildur, an icelandic trans-girl whos the subject of a new documentary which is named after her and was premiered in Iceland yesterday (on the first day of Rvik Gay Pride).

Hrafnhildur admits that undergoing the gender correction was far from easy. It was hard seeing some of the body changes as well as seeing others become worried and sceptical about her decision. But now shes happy at how glad family and friends have become. “I’ve sensed that the procedure could be an inspiration for others against opposition, what ever it may be.”

Finally she says that compared to past years it’s alright to be a little different in the icelandic society. Shes very grateful for the positive reaction shes gotten.
