For a while Gay 46 at Hverfisgata 46, Reykjavik, has been the only gay bar in Iceland. Tonight that is all going to change with the grand opening of a new gay bar/disco called Kjallarinn (e. The Basement) at Laugavegur 73 (main shopping street of Reykjavik). The owner is none other than Ingi Rafn Hauksson who’s is one of the guys behind Gay 46.
Kjallarinn is already on Facebook where Ingi’s friend, Stefán Guðjónsson talks about their plans to open a gay bar and a tavern in the same building.”We have been working like crazy to get the place ready for the opening,” he says.
