Pop singer Paul Oscar thinks Iceland should drop out of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The former Eurovision contestant came to this conclusion after hearing news saying that a part of the poorer population in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan were the contest will take part for the first time in May, are being evicted from their houses to make way for a new concert hall.
Baku’s city authority is being accused of threatining and throwing hundreds of people out on the streets and destroying their homes. This is said to be a part of the government’s plans to use Eurovision to boost the image of little known Azerbaijan.
However the plan might bakfire as the international press is paying close attention to the alleged human right abuses being commited in Azerbaijan.
In Iceland Paul Oscar has been very outspoken about his opinion on the matter, even asking the Icelandic contestants to back out.
