Yesterday we posted a translation of an article by Erla Hlynsdóttir published in Fréttablaðið and on Vísir.is under the caption “The Rain before the Rainbow”. Erla expressed her thoughts on the Reykjavík Gay Pride Parade, leaving us amongst other things with this very powerful image:
Far away I could see a float in the Parade that was different from the others. No music came from it and it wasn´t decorated with any rainbow flags. Nobody was on it. As it drew closer I could see there was an empty bench on it. Then I saw the written message: “For our friends who don’t have the freedom to celebrate gay pride.”
Today we’re posting pictures of the float so you can see for yourself what made this year´s Reykjavík Gay Pride Parade one of the most political and emotionally overwhelming events of the year in Iceland. We´d like to use the opportunity to praise the person(s) who came up with this powerful message reminding us that so many people still don’t enjoy basic human rights.
If you do know who came up with the idea for this float please comment.
