The Gay Pride festivities in Reykjavík have taken place annually in August since 1999. This year marks a drastic change for Pride as the parade will not follow it’s regular route down shopping street Laugavegur but instead start at bus station BSÍ going by Sóleyjargata, Fríkirkjuvegur and Lækjargata, ending with entertainment at Arnarhóll.
Pride planners say that the reason behind this is that The Gay Pride parade has outgrown Laugavegur, as the audience has skyrocketed from a five thousand to seventy thousand.
Whether this change of plan will work or not remains to be seen on August 5th.
