What’s on in March in LGBTQIA+ Iceland?

In March you’ll find everything from support spaces and activism to drag extravaganzas and late-night singalongs.

March in Iceland sits right in that strange, transitional moment between winter and spring. The days are getting noticeably longer; by the end of the month Reykjavík will have almost 13 hours of daylight, but winter hasn’t quite loosened its grip yet. One day you might get blue skies and sunlight glittering off the snow, the next you’re back in sideways sleet and gale-force winds reminding you that Icelandic spring likes to arrive fashionably late. It’s also prime Northern Lights season, with dark enough nights to keep aurora chasers hopeful while the promise of summer slowly creeps into the longer evenings.

That in-between feeling tends to shape the social calendar too. March isn’t packed wall-to-wall with big festivals, but the community rhythm is very much alive. It’s a month of regular gatherings, grassroots organising, and the kinds of smaller events that keep Reykjavík’s queer scene ticking over through the colder months. Weekly staples like karaoke and drag at Kiki continue to provide a reliable excuse to get out of the house and into the city’s most iconic queer bar, while community groups hold meetings and cosy gatherings that reflect the quieter but deeply connected side of LGBTQIA+ life in Iceland.

You’ll find everything from support spaces and activism to drag extravaganzas and late-night singalongs, plus the annual Samtakaball, which brings the community together for one of the most joyful dance parties of the year during the Samtökin ‘78 AGM weekend. Whether you’re looking for a supportive space, a night of glitter and lip-syncs, or just somewhere to sing your heart out after a long Icelandic winter day, there’s something happening this month.

Here’s what’s on in queer Iceland this March.
