Strap In For a Kinky New Night at Kiki!

This Saturday, Reykjavík’s Kiki Queer Bar is turning up the heat with STRAPPED, a kink-themed queer night.

With DJs, go-go dancers, and harnesses galore, the event promises to be more than just a party. It’s a celebration of queer energy, self-expression, and playful liberation. We caught up with two of the DJs behind the night; DJ Mellí and DJ Derek, to talk inspiration, community, and how to get strapped in style.

“We wanted to throw a proper celebration for our regulars as well as newcomers, a sweaty and sexy night to a tee. And the belts and harnesses? They’re hot, playful, and a chance for everyone to express their fashion and let loose,” says DJ Mellí.

GayIceland: How did the idea for this themed night come about?

It’s gonna be sweaty, loud, and full of moments you’ll want to relive later on!

DJ Mellí: “Kiki has always been ‘that’ sense of home for the queer community in Reykjavík; safe, loud, and unapologetically queer. We wanted to throw a proper celebration for our regulars as well as newcomers, a sweaty and sexy night to a tee. And the belts and harnesses? They’re hot, playful, and a chance for everyone to express their fashion and let loose. It’s all about sound, style, and showing up strapped, literally and figuratively.”

GayIceland: This is the first night of its kind at KIKI, could this be the start of even more kink themed nights?

DJ Derek: “If the community wants it, we’ll always deliver. It’s about creating the kind of energy people want to come back to. And sure, this time the theme is harnesses, but the next party could be something totally different. As long as it’s queer, fun, and a little wild, we’re down!”

GayIceland: What can guests expect?

DJ Mellí: “A night full of music and good energy. Our DJs (Mellí, Derek D, and Berg) are serving everything from house to cunty techno, with a little Latin to keep things spicy, all with the queer energy we live for.”

“This time the theme is harnesses, but the next party could be something totally different. As long as it’s queer, fun, and a little wild, we’re down,” says DJ Derek.

DJ Derek: “Music brings us together and gets us moving. We’ve got the one and only Crisartista taking the stage (and stealing the show), along with Mia and Daniel, our go-go dance performers shaking things up between every beat. It’s gonna be sweaty, loud, and full of moments you’ll want to relive later on!”

GayIceland: How do you think events like Strapped contribute to fostering a more open and diverse queer community in Reykjavík?

DJ Mellí: “Kiki has been a home for the queer community in Reykjavík for years. It’s one of the few places where people can show up, feel safe, and be themselves. Events like STRAPPED help keep that energy alive by creating space to dance, dress how you want, and celebrate queer joy out loud. Music brings us together, drag brings the drama, and having a night to express yourself freely makes a big difference.”

If our attendees are worried about not owning outfits matching the theme, you can find cheap chains in Byko and throw it over any old outfit you have – voilá!

GayIceland: Do you have any advice for first-time attendees who might be curious about exploring the kink scene but are unsure where to start?

DJ Derek: “Well, no need to show up in full gear. A belt, a harness, or just a curious attitude is a perfect start. No pressure, no rules. If our attendees are worried about not owning outfits matching the theme, you can find cheap chains in Byko and throw it over any old outfit you have – voilá!”

DJ Mellí: “Kink-inspired attire is about feeling good in your skin and having fun while doing it. Take your time, check out the vibes, hype about someone’s look, or hit the dance floor and see where the night takes you. Just be respectful and stay open.”

Whether you’re rocking leather, lace, or just a great attitude, STRAPPED is shaping up to be a bold new addition to Reykjavík’s queer nightlife. It’s a night for beats, belts, and breaking boundaries; all on your own terms. So grab a harness (or hit up Byko), and get ready to dance your queer heart out.
